if you were going to make a simple scrappy --oh, say, pinwheels or squares or whatever -- what size block would you choose? small little blocks {4,5,6} or larger ones? or do you just follow the pattern?
I see some great designs, but think it would look better larger or smaller--- I find it quite an obstacle in choosing a design...and whether it is ever started or not! So-- do you prefer large or small? I'm lazy so I'd alway go bigger |
I have done them all sizes. I have many that are 2.5 in squares and others that are finished blocks that are 8 or ten inch squares. It partly depends on the size of the scraps that you are using. I have not used books but I have used some internet patterns. ..... and of course you can always go quiltville.com for more ideas that one can accomplish in a lifetime.
Have fun with your scrappies and from time to time just stand back in amazement at what you have created from nearly nothing! |
For me, as some others have said, it depends on the size of the scraps I am wanting to use up. I find 5" to 8" a good size to aim for in most cases, but have also combined many different sized blocks in one quilt when that is how the scraps played out.
I tend to be flexible with scrappies. Smilesss........ |
Re: Choice of large or small blocks?
I would always go for the large blocks. Anyone remember macreme? I always did mine with rope!
