I have the hardest time choosing fabrics, I am OK with 3 but anymore than that I get frustrated.
Do any of you have some tips ??? |
check out the color wheel, it will give you a clue. also black is usually a good choice.

I have the same problem sometimes; just sit back, relax and make that shopping trip an adventure (even if you are shopping through your stash)

Are you on a shopping trip or armchair shopping?
An artist friend of mine gave me a hint several years ago. She uses her fingers as a "frame" and only looks at a portion of the fabric. That helps the eye to focus on the colors and design. Sometimes looking at the entire piece is too overwhelming and you miss a detail or color. I think this is probably similar to looking through a door peephole, without the peephole. It works for me... every time! |
Think big. Lots of different fabrics of the same color is more forgiving then less. Also some people prefer less colors or less fabrics in quilts. There are several nice book written to help you with color.
Color Magic for Quilters by Seely and Steward is one of my favorites. It is an easy read too with fun projects. This link is to some ones blog but it shows the cover of the book when you scroll down. http://allthingsquilty.blogspot.com/...-workshop.html |
Buy them all! Bwah ha ha ha!

I saw a tip to use the color dots on the salvage of the main fabric you choose. Then you can find coordinating colors to use.

If you have 3 colors, you can always add atint or shade of any or all of them! And my mother told me that green goes with everything!
