Choosing Thread for Christmas tree quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I need help in finding what color thread is out there that would work with the background of this small Christmas quilt that I am finally getting done 7 months late. I am planning to use a clam-shell background stencil to quilt the tree using a rich green (the same thread in the border). But don't know what thread would work for the background. The pattern is called Tropical Tree Banner and was in a magazine called Quilting for Christmas Holiday 2012. I bought the individual pattern on eBay. THANKS :)

I think a gold tone would look good, especially if you pebbled or did some other type small fill-in quilting stitch. That would make the tree stand out. Food for thought....I know you said you were going to do the tree in green, but why not silver like your star? That could make it almost magical. If you did decide to do the silver, then do the background in one of the colors in your background, maybe the light pale yellow. Just something to enhance the tree.

I agree with Barb. I would use silver or gold to quilt the tree, making the quilting look like garlands and ornaments. I might even use several colors for this. For the background I would quilt "presents" at the bottom in contrasting colors, then quilt the background of a room (walls, curtains, etc.) in the upper part of the background. I would make it subtle so you don't notice the background at first, but are drawn into it when you study the quilt.

I think I might go for an orangey thread for the background, or a variegated orange/gold. I think orange would blend well with the pink fabrics, too.

I like your idea of using green thread for quilting the tree, I would also couch on some of that silver that you used for the star to add garlands of tinsel. For the background a variegated thread in the same colour way as the background batiks would be pretty

Maybe red thread.

I did a couple kid's quilts that had a tree and used silver thread on one and gold on the other. I made freehand snowflakes/stars here, there, everywhere in the background as if it were snowing. Turned out nice.

Love your tree!!!

Glide thread comes in colors that have the appearance of metallic, but handle much better for me. You might consider it. I posted this a while back:
