Maybe you guys have ideas for what to do about this.
If you didn't read my other posts, I'm doing a Super Mario quilt and creating the items from the 3rd game into blocks. It has 20 blocks (9") and 22 colors (if memory serves me right). Here's an example of a block [IMG]http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/Mushroom.jpg[/IMG] My problem is that all the blocks are completely different (with the exception of the Super Mushroom and 1-UP Mushroom) and have different colors (the only common ground being black and white). So I'm not really sure how to stitch this together and what color thread to use for it. My first idea was to sew around each color---like if there was a chunk of white, sew along the edge of that portion. Then I remembered there's 20 colors and that would get expensive and absolutely painstaking to try to match each thread to each color. Or maybe do that with just the black and the white, but because each block has different amounts of black and white I'm not sure if that would work either. I need some ideas. What might be the best/better way to go about this? |
I piece using light/dark beige colors. If it is mainly white then I use white, same with black. In this one, I would use a white and dark beige. JMHO

If you mean what color thread to quilt it, then I would use white to quilt a design or stipple only in the white fabric sections. That would be plenty of quilting for each block. The colored sections would be small enough to leave unquilted and that would make them pop and look almost 3D.

Are you talking about piecing, quilting or both?

For piecing, have you considered gridded fusible, like for watercolor quilts? Variegated thread may be an option for quilting. Bring a completed chunk into the store, and audition threads by pulling a foot or so out and laying across it to see what works.

You could use the newer invisible thread..clear and the smokey colored on the darker sections... :wink:
