Christian Blocks

Our middle daughter & her husband are missionaries in Bulgaria with my 2 young grandsons. I want to make them a queen sized quit made from Christian blocks. So far I have Cross & Crown, Gethsemene, Jacobs Tears, Jacobs Ladder, Josephs Coat & Crown or Thorns. My biggest problem is I don't know how to Paper Piece and don't have time to learn it right now (I'm also a beginner). My question is..can anyone suggest a book that isn't EPP, easy enough for a beginner or even lead me to free Christian blocks that aren't PP'd? I would be forever in debt to you. I feel confident that you Members of this awesome board will help me out in so many ways I am looking forward to all your responses. Thank you again for all you knowledge of all things quilting & more.

Jeri,

EPP and paper piecing are different methods - for EEP think wrapping fabric around hexagons shapes whilst paper piecing involves actually stitching fabric intially to a paper design. It might be worth checking out youtube for tutorials on paper piecing just in case you might feel differently about this method once you see someone show you a "how to"

My personal go to for inspiration is quilters cache - you can look at blocks either by size or by name, it has a system to indicate ease and what kind of method involved i.e red pins for applique.

Had a quick look and found http://www.quilterscache.com/K/KingD...k.html....king david's crown
Saint Gregory's cross http://www.quilterscache.com/S/StGre...rossBlock.html
Star of David which is paper piecing but looks beautiful http://www.quilterscache.com/S/StarofDavidBlock.html

Good luck with your search and be sure to post a picture when you get it done!

How about alternating some plain blocks on which you can write scripture verses in permanent fabric ink? I have done prayer quilts and 'new baby' quilts this way, selecting the verses I want. A snowball block is nice to write on, too.

I love that site. There are a lot of great patterns on there. I had to mark that one for myself.

I did a search on Google "Bible quilt blocks quilt books" and found numerous books listed. I found the book I own (but has gone missing since I moved).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIBLICAL-BLO...p2054897.l4275

The book is for sale on eBay for $12.99. You need to know that these blocks are not simple blocks for a beginner quilter. You might just try to pick the simplest blocks and plan to make a quilt with that block.

Devil's Claw
Devil's Puzzle
Solomon's Puzzle
Hosanna
Golgotha
David & Goliath
Heavenly Problem
Carpenter's Whee;
Heavenly Stars
Bethlehem Rose
Star of Magi
Cross within a Cross

Good Luck and God Bless. You might want to see if there is a local quilts store in your area that can help assist you. PP is not that difficult and it makes accuracy much easier for a beginner.

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they have Christian fabric that maybe you could incorporate into your quilt. There are a couple on this page of their website toward the bottom. I didn't check out all the fabric on line but your might find other suppliers

I love the idea of a sampler made with Christian blocks but a beautiful quilt that may be simpler for you is Charismah's cross quilt. Here is a link to her tute:

Queen that is a great link. Thank you.

I found this on a site that I can't remember, but it wouldn't be hard to replicate. I do remember that the owner had posted her instructions to share, so it was something she made up.
