:-( I can't seem to find my way around here. I just need to know how big do I cut pieces of fabric for a 2 1/2 in styro ball to make the Christmas Ball Ornaments. I cannot buy the 3 inch ones around here any where so I have to settle for the smaller ones. I just don't know what size to cut the fabric and wondered if anyone would happen to know or could figure it out and let me know.

Thanks P.J.

If you mean this kind of ornament:

I'd keep the sizes the same and fold down the difference wnen attaching them to the ball. Another option would be to make the stripes narrower. Since there are so many kinds of quilted ornaments you can make, I'm not sure what you had in mind.

well I dont know what kind of ornament you are making BUT I made one using a styrofoam ball and all you had to do is take a knife and push the edges of the fabric into the ball no far though just enough so it would stay I found the kids could help this way too. It has to be the sytrofoam though that you can see the air-spaces in it if that makes sense hope so cause I dot know how else to describe it .I would figure out how many fabrics you are going to use also then find that pattern you want to make and go fro there if is doesn't work well you have a block made for you next sampler quilt

Thank you for the info everyone. I don't know my way around here yet and that is why I sent so many messages, I guess.

I didn't know if I would have to make the pieces smaller since the ball was smaller or not. You just can't buy anything around here for crafts. I have to go to Des Moines to Micheals, or Hobby Lobby to get things and I don't always get up there very much. It is 100 miles away so when you go you want a big list of things to get.

Thanks again P.J.

Ok, if you are making the ornaments in the link that Moonpi posted up above, only on a 2.5" ball instead of a 3" one, I would change the fabric squares to 2".

I won't bore you with the math, but if you decrease the size of the fabric squares by the same ratio as the decrease in the size of the circumfereence of the balls, you get just a tad over 2". You can make final adjustments in the amount you overlap the triangles as you pin them. (The larger squares would be much too large, imho.)
