Our guild meets the end of July to share small projects to make early for Christmas gifts.

What are some of the gifts you have made or received? I have found a lot of ideas online, however I appreciate your thoughts on projects you have found to be fun gifts! Thank you!

Our guild usually does this but this year we are making Danish star ornaments to decorate a Hospice tree.

How to make a fabric origami pouch

I made these gift pouches last year. they were made to hold little gifts for the women on my list. I also made one for the ornament swap I sent to. I like the size of them. They were very well received by all who got them.

Many thanks for the link to making a fabric origami pouch! The tutorial was excellent. I have so many fat quarters that will work well for this project. I'll look forward to making one and sharing the tutorial with my guild.

Those are nice to make for a sale table too. We made those draw string bags before they were named origami pouch about ten years ago. I made some using camo fabric to use to hold small gear on ATVs. Good to keep in trucks or tractors for small items needed. Made them to sell at our guild table using fun fabrics for little toy trucks, figit spinners, etc We made bigger ones and smaller ones.

I was gifted a travel jewelry organizer pouch years ago. Still use it.

This year I think I may make:
- a reversible apron with adjustable straps that don’t require hardware (following this tutorial)
- oversized (casserole sized) hot pads
- fancy kitchen rags (unpaper towels some call them)

Qbear, how do you make your oversized hot pads?

I did make an origami pouch yesterday. I used thin interfacing, but am making one today without it. The drawstring part was thick and stiff. It is cute!

I got the original idea from PinCutSew on YouTube but I would say if you already make hot pads, follow your favorite method but make it big enough to plop a 9x13 casserole onto, and lose the hanging loop if you use them because that would be silly to hang. To make it easier on myself last year I did opt to sew mine up inside out, flip and topstitch around the edge instead of bind them. It saved a ton of time on a kind of utilitarian item that will last at most a couple years use.
