Christmas next year

I'm thinkng about making the Anita Goodesign nativity embroidery, but instead of sewing the squares together, making them into an attic windows quilt. If this makes sense, how would it look?
i hope this is the link and I don't post something I shouldn't.

I think it would be beautiful, let us see when it's done. Merry Christmas!

Anxious to see when finished but not to rush the day or 2016! Merry Christmas!

The thing you have to keep in mind when doing an attic windows from a panel or, in this case, an embroidery is that the width of the window sashing is going to distort your design. With a panel, you can remove the appropriate amount of fabric so the distortion is removed or minimized, but you won't have that option with the embroideries. For instance, if your window sashing is going to be an inch, then Joseph's arm is going to be extended an additional inch. Will that look funny? You have to decide. Before proceeding, I would do a screen print of the design from the website, print it off, cut it apart and move the embroidered squares apart to mimic the width of the sashing. You can see if this will add too much distortion.

Thanks that's a really good idea. I don't plan to get the design until I decide for sure and that won't be for a couple of months.

Good Luck. Looks like a very interesting project.

Sounds like a great idea.

Would love to see the finished project

Sound like a great project

I think you would go to a whole lot of work to sew the embroidery and would be VERY unhappy with the results if you cut the embroidery and sew it into an attic window quilt. It would chop your design all up in an unsatisfactory manner.

Good luck.

very nice idea.
I got the gingerbread house from Urban Threads n sale for $1.50
it's 3d stand up about 4" x 3 1/2" x 4". it's done on ultra Solvy.
Getting a jump on next year too.
Please show us when it's done.

Would the fact that they are different size blocks trip you up. for instance you would have different size panes in your window? Just asking.

mjhaess 12-27-2015 06:58 AM

Great project to look forward to. You will have a whole year to finish it. Good luck...

meanmom 12-27-2015 07:02 AM

I think it would look beautiful and look forward to seeing it. I have seen where people cut up panels and put them in attic windows.

You would be sewing the embroidery in blocks....so you would not cut the embroidered blocks....just join them attic window style. I agree the sashing may distort the design and not be happy can you enlarge the picture on this site and cut it apart before you purchase the design?

humbird 12-27-2015 07:16 AM

To avoid distortion, you could stitch the blocks together then applique the sashing over the "panel" avoiding going over faces, and important portions. I did this on a panel, but it was much smaller than this would be. I used narrow sashing strips. It worked out pretty well.

rjwilder 12-27-2015 08:20 AM

I have embroidered many of Anita Goodesign's wall hangings. They are heavy but beautiful. If it were me I'd embroider the "C" size, it would be 34" wide x 24" tall. Then as a few borders to it and bind it. It would be a lap quilt instead of a bed quilt. The scene is kind of busy and I think an attic quilt would be too much and the scene would be distorted.

gramquilter2 12-27-2015 09:08 AM

I think turning it into an attic window would probably not work but hope to see the posted results of how it worked for you. I just got the "Night Before Christmas" design by OESD and am stating 2016 gifts too.

maxnme01 12-27-2015 10:12 AM

There's a lot of food for thought posted so far and I agree it may be difficult to determine what to do so you project isn't distorted HOWEVER, that being said, it should be a WOWZER! Good luck

Pennyhal 12-27-2015 10:47 AM

I don't think that I'd turn it into an attic window type design. I think Paper Princiss describes what would happen very well.

cowgirlquilter 12-27-2015 10:52 AM

Wow that would be beautiful!!!!!

sewbeeit42 12-27-2015 03:56 PM

I agree that the elements would be separated from each other and would appear chopped up with the basic scene lost.

sushi 12-27-2015 04:26 PM

I agree that the most successful approach might be to appliqué the "windows" so as not to distort the design.

Nonna Judi 12-29-2015 06:41 AM

Please let us see the end result if you deceide to make it. Good luck to you!
