Christmas Project Weekend Retreat

Okay everyone, how many of you are like me and have unfinished projects that need to be ready to gift on Wednesday? I have at least three!

(1) Quilt for niece
(2) Stocking for DH
(3) Mug rugs for mother in law (not even started yet, oops)

This is your support group to power through these projects! I'm off to my sewing room with my coffee right now. Oh, and I'm hosting a Christmas party tomorrow.

tildiemae 12-21-2013 08:48 AM

I'm right with you!

Yay! Glad to have the company. What are you working on?

I got the applique pieces cut out for the stocking and started stitching them on. I got pretty far before I had to quit to cook for the Christmas party. I'll be back at it tonight after everyone leaves.

We need to stop reading this and get busy finishing projects. I have a few to finish, too.

Tartan 12-21-2013 10:59 AM

I have all my sewing done but I just took the frozen turkey out to put it in the fridge. 4 days in the fridge and it should be ready to cook on Wednesday.

I'm waiting for a call back from a client and then I'll be joining you! She needs a quilt quilted and bound by Friday.

It should work out for me and for her!

Nan

How can you all do all this stuff when we only have 2 1/2 days left.???

Magic!

Yep, going to have to be magic.

It's Sat night & I'm finding out just now that we will be having Christmas company next weekend (yes, lucky me they will actually come after Christmas). But I need a quilted gift for them as every other family got hand made items. Is it too late for me to join in the fun here? I'm thinking table runner...that should be doable right?

Anniedeb 12-21-2013 10:21 PM

Does it count as an unfinished project if it's still in the 'thinking 'bout it' stage??;) I had such great intentions, but, time keeps on slipping away. Maybe next year!!

A table runner sounds great! I've been wanting to do one for my house but having a hard time picking a pattern.

kaelynangelfoot 12-22-2013 04:27 AM

Yes. I'm still thinking about those mug rugs.

Reba'squilts 12-22-2013 05:36 AM

I just have to finish the hand work on my GD quilt. I also made a slew of fifteen minute table runners for family. I have to finish two. I put some warn and natural in them and free motion quilted them. Turned out pretty nice! Oh I also made curtains for my DH and DS's hunting cabin. Have lots of stuff to do today. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I'm guessing that none of you doing these projects have regular meals or household chores to do also. I am overwhelmed this time of year just to get my everyday things done much less go to the sewing room. Guess I am just not efficient enough or organized at all. Yall just put me to shame. Do you all have long-arms? I don't see how you make even table runners and get them quilted and bound in the time that you seem to!! yikes! I feel very inadequate!

MargeD 12-22-2013 08:50 AM

OK, I don't have as many projects as you do, however, I am working on finishing a quilt for our DGD for Christmas. I got the top finished in May just before I had surgery on my shoulder. I'm hampered by not having the full use of my shoulder yet, but I'm going to do my best to finish it for her as she just got a "Big Girl's" bed, so my son is anxious for the quilt to be done. Wish me luck.

grandme26 12-22-2013 02:05 PM

I am finishing the last of the 7 quilts I have made for adult family members, then I have 5 hot pot mats to finish binding and I will be ready to wrap tomorrow when DD comes over for our wrap party. Must get some eggnog for us.

Nammie to 7 12-22-2013 05:51 PM

I still have some Christmas presents to wrap -- but I've only made one small quilt for Christmas. All of a sudden Christmas is almost here! Where does the time go!

franc36 12-22-2013 06:07 PM

I have decided that next Christmas I will not have to rush to get everything done. Yesterday, I started making the quilt I will give my sister next Christmas. My goal is to make two quilts a month. I am not going to be rushing around at the last minute as I did this year.

You are most productive! Two quilts a month would be a miracle in my book. Good plan and best of luck with it. May the odds be ever in your favor...

I finished that stocking, now for the mug rugs. Nammie, I also can't believe that Christmas is almost here already! This would also be the first year I'm giving away hand made gifts in a long long time.

Got all mine done.....Yeah....

barny 12-23-2013 07:02 PM

Kaelynangelfoot, that stocking is the prettiest I have ever seen. Gorgeous.

tildiemae 12-23-2013 09:08 PM

My last project is almost finished..then wrapping a few presents and making our family's favorite cookie...krumkake. It'll be a busy morning!

For a change, I put my sewing machine away Satrurday morning. (except to sew a strap back on my purse a few minutes ago)

donac 12-24-2013 02:22 AM

I stopped on Sat too. I got very sidetracked by life at the beginning of the month so I had to give up. I get back to work on things on Wed night/Thurs morning.

quiltingshorttimer 12-25-2013 07:32 PM

it's now 9:30pm on Christmas Day--I had to send IOU's to my brother and sis-in-law for lapquilts--I'm in KS and they are in ID and I swear it takes about a week to get stuff to them either UPS or USPS--that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! My sis-in-laws is still on the long arm and I'm cogitating what to do with it.
I'm tired of always rushing to finish stuff by Christmas--and forget other holidays, they are totally not happening. How about some of you more organized quilters forming a "Christmas Rush Recovery" group and getting the rest of going on stuff in June?? I need your help!

tildiemae 12-26-2013 07:02 AM

that sounds like a great idea...I would be on board!!

I put my sewing machine away Saturday. Except for an emergency patch job. It's the day after Christmas adn I'm ready to drag it out again.
