http://www.quilterscache.com/U/UnionSquaresBlock.html need your advise! **one background fabric .... a nothing print, that has something Christmas in it. **the dark parts, pick two .... one red, one green. both a darkish/bright colour (does that make sense?) -- and maybe with some metallic in them for the gltiz and glimmer of Christmas! **the printed parts .... an assortment that plays off the other three fabrics This is going to be one really nice Merry Christmas Birthday for your Mom!! PS ...... have the nieces each make one of the squares!!! :) |
hmmmm. i think i follow you on this ... so the light is all one color? and then the other is christmas?

OK .... let's try this again
**background fabric .... be consistent and use just one fabric for all blocks. When I say a nothing print, I'm thinking of somethng that from a distance shows as pretty plain, though may have a bit of a design. Perhaps a white or ecru with a small holly on it here and there? or an all over tiny Christmas print, there were some lovely ones last year that were white on white, with little Christmas motifs spread in it. Not too busy, so that your main block pattern is the feature and it doesn't take away from it. **the rust part of the block ... choose two fabrics of equal darkness, one red, the other a green. Really rich colours, in a nice rich Christmas colours. Not the same fabric in different colours though, but make sure they work well together. And yes, some glitz and glimmer would be nice with a hint of the metallic gold in there. **the printed fabric ... use an assortment of Christmas fabrics that work well with all the others. Clear as mud?? This could be a spectacular quilt ... very elegant! **the dark parts, pick two .... one red, one green. both a darkish/bright colour (does that make sense?) -- and maybe with some metallic in them for the gltiz and glimmer of Christmas! **the printed parts .... an assortment that plays off the other three fabrics |
