Christmas Quilting - UFO Blocks Completed!!

Christmas day is quiet as we celebrate with family on Christmas Eve, so today I tackled one of my UFO's, a log cabin variation using 1" strips. All 80 blocks are done - phew!! Tomorrow I am going to final press and square them up and start on the lattice strips. The blocks are a bit wonky, but I think it will add to the ambiance. Doing a 1" strip log is a bear, a mess of strings - I cut about double of what I needed. I am taking a pledge that I will never again do 1" strips again. Love the homey look, but it was alot of sewing. I will put it up on my design board after the blocks are final pressed.

Wow, you have more patience than I do! I can't stand working with fabric that width :)

Me neither, I really like two inch or bigger.

Did mine in 2" 1-1/2" finished. Youve got patience and a beautiful quilt.

I just trued up 7 1/2" blocks, boy are they wonky. I cut the sashing and will try to stretch the blocks to fit - I started this quilt years ago before I understood that 1/4" seams have to be exact. But - it will look "real country". I was going to do 8 x 10 blocks, I will test my sanity quite a few times in finishing this UFO.

You could really turn them wonky and make it look like you intended them to be that way. I would be very careful stretching the blocks. You might not be really happy with the results. Either way, I love you description of "real country" blocks. I'm sure it's going to look great!! Can't wait to see how it all turns out. :)

Great idea, I can sew 1 1/2" strips around each wonky square then true those blocks up. Then I will not have to stretch, the blocks, and I keep the wonky look. I am going to try a couple - thanks!!

Here is one block that I sewed strips to even out the wonky. I think I will do a mix of colors to keep it scrappy, and to make the stashing stand out. Each block will be a true 9". Yeah - I like it!!

Wow, I think this wonky UFO is going to look good after all.
