I have a son who has requested a nativity scene. I know these are such a tremendous amount of work even if you buy them unfinished and just paint them, so I am wondering if anyone has made a stained glass wall hanging of the nativity scene. If so, could you tell me where you obtained your pattern? Thank you.

I just did a quick Google of stained glass patterns. You can easily resize them and do a fusible applique. |

I just heard about a web site and checked it out. I typed in Coloringbook printable pages on Google. The pictures are perfect for children to color or could be used for applique or stitching.
I copied some off for a friend who used the castle and a picture of a knight on a horse to decorate a birthday cake. Really nice Nativity scenes. Carol J. |
Using blender fabrics, batiks that are not stamped, look for fabrics that don't have a print/pattern on them, these types really mimic real stained glass.
Actual stained glass patterns work beautifully, too :D:D:D |
Quilters Warehouse has some nativity patterns.

here is a great book, I have it and it is very well written, many different projects, and has simple applique pieces.

The link takes you to the artist Bonnie Mohr in Minnesota. A very talented lady indeed. I've had the picture for over twenty years and love bringing it out each year for two or three months. |

I just received this on an email the other day, and it's got everything you'll need to make a nativity. You could do it in redwork, embroidery, or applique. Hope the link works! |
Thank you everyone for all the ideas and links. They give me a lot to choose from - everything from a Hispanic nativity scene to Botticelli's.
|
You might also try "Mt. Redoubt" designs. She is an excellent designer of a variety of subjects.

Can't wait to see pics!!

I have a son who has requested a nativity scene.
Paper Panache usually has one that is paper pieced. I looked it up and web site said it was unavailable at this time. Maybe you could keep a watch out to see if it comes back in stock or maybe get with them and see what their plans are for bringing it back. Robin in TX |
I love the book Adoration Quilts by: Rachel Brown. I have done several of the projects in the book. It has good instructions that are easy to follow. A lot of small pieces but really worth the effort. I did it all in fusible applique.

This is the one I like, but is not stained glass

I'll show him all these choices. What he has asked for is for me get an unpainted wooden or other construction nativity set and paint, decorate it. One with the figures about 10 inches tall and painted accurately according to historical research for clothing, etc. I think a wall hanging would be easier but of course it won't be interchangeable for Christmas decorating. Will let you know what he decides. I'm letting him decide so that I don't put a lot a labor into something he doesn't want and won't use.

Great question. I hope you will post what you end up doing. :-D

Thank you for that suggestion but he is stuck on the idea of the nativity scene being true to the historical period. That leaves out the Old Master's versions, the newer versions, the silhouettes, etc. He wants it done as if someone took a photo of the actual event.
