When making Christmas stockings do you use batting? I have always used two pieces of batting (one for each side). However, I have alot of Christmas fabric stockings already cut out but am out of batting. Was wondering if it would be firm enough to hold goodies if I didn't use the batting. Or should I suck it up and go out and buy some batting to use?

I use Pellon Fleece and only use it in the front.

My stocking my Mom made me when I was a kid had no batting. It really is a bit limp.

I think it would be too flimsy without the batting.

If the stocking will be lined, in other words the fabric is doubled, it should be OK, unless they are really going to get loaded up! Just double stitch the seams.

I made quilted stockings for my family. I used batting on the front-which was quilted. I did make a lining for the stocking too so that kind of made up for only a single layer of fabric for the backing. I hope this makes sense- if they were't stuffed away in the attic I'd post a picture.......plus I don't want to even think about Christmas right now! LOL...that means lots of white stuff..ugh!

Yes, I line them with solid white fabric, so it would be double fabric on each side.

I don't use batting, just make a liner. They hold lots of goodies just fine

I use batting but I have gotten them in swaps without. Really I prefer them with but I do not see why you could not use a piece of an old flannel sheet or whatever you have on hand even two layers of cheap fabric or so.
