Decided to check out how strong my shoulder is since surgery and make a tree skirt. Well, the shoulder held without too much pain and the tree skirt is together. My question is " how do you put a border on an octagon tree skirt, and mitre the borders". I should be able to do this but my brain decided to freezeup!

I believe you miter them just the same as with a square or rectangular quilt. I read that recently somewhere.

eta: this pattern has angles that would be the same as an octagon. At the binding instruction it just says the corners worked fine even though they are not 90 degrees.

That is the one I did. Binding isn't the issue at the moment, I want to add co-ordinating border fabric to the tree shirt and am not sure how to mitre the corners.

One of the easiest ways for me to do it is add a border, carefully iron...make sure on the first one you have lots hanging off both ends. And miter like you would for a quilt top. Hope this helps.

I just finished an octagon (or was it hexagon?) tree skirt for my sister and mitered the corners of the binding just the same as regular. Did finish the binding by hand instead of machine but that's because I enjoy that process and think it looks better.

Ooops, sorry, you were asking about borders not binding.

oh duhhh I had binding on the brain. Sorry-I think I did find a link about mitering but my dd needs the computer right now so I'll try to find it later.

The links were very helpful to figure out the binding. Now to wait for someone to help with the border.
