Looks like you have a good start. Of course all the new gadgets make things easier, but it's amazing what you can do with what you have to work with. I started like Clem55 - cardboard templates and sissors. Oh, the joy of rotary cutters.

I like to keep a good supply of needles (a sharp needle is a wonderful thing!), extra rotary blades and don't forget THREAD. A must have for me is a big cutting mat (24"x36").

May all your Christmas quilting dreams come true.

How about just gift certificates from different quilt shops so I can go and pick my own fabrics, rulers or whatever else I need!

I picked up the neatest stencil yesterday in Camden. It's thread spools , needles, etc and I'm going to use rainbow colors and stencil around my sewing room. I thought the rainbow colors would go better against the light lilac than just a plan color. Now to get dh to fix my fabric shelves for me so I can put my fabric back and get my quilting books in there to.

I'm not a beginner, but actually have very few things I couldn't do without.

A basic quilting book, rotary cutter & mat, cones of good thread & cone holder.Let me think...seam ripper, basic rulers. That's about it. All the rest is the results of "I want",rather than I need :-)Have a good machine, but any machine that works good is fine for piecing.

So guess I don't need anything.

What are some things you couldn't do without when you were a beginner or can't do without now?

I have just the basics:

6X24 acrylic ruler
45 mm rotary cutter
18X24 cutting mat (self-healing)
Seam Ripper
Spring Loaded snipper things (LOL like my expert term - used to make rag quilt)

Thanks!

I have received my secret santa gift, don't know what it is but, do know that is the only gift Santa's bringing this year. Just put my mom in a nursing home for Alz.
