I'm looking for ways to do the Cathedral Window quilt (well, really, a Rob Peter to Pay Paul quilt, but same template). I had purchased the Accuquilt dies, haven't used them yet.

I just watched this video on Missouri Star Quilts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gKvdrexKE4) which uses the Circle Magic Ruler. OMG, that looks so cool. Has anyone used that ruler to make the blocks? Is it as easy as it looks??

I am making a cathedral window quilt and this looks easy. Thanks for the link.

Thanks so much for the link. I bought this ruler years ago and haven't tried it. I love the look of this quilt. So another on my "to do" list.

yep have the ruler, and even cut out some denim circles but that was as far as I got, just another wip

It does look fairly easy and it does make a pretty quilt, but it doesn't really look enough like a cathedral window to suit me. When I do my lazy cathedral window, I think I'll play with the measurements of the 10 minute block. If you change up the size ratio between the pieces and then roll the edges of the center down, I think it will give a pretty good likeness of the cathedral window.

I try not to do blocks/quilts where I have to buy a specialized ruler. It looks easy, but again you have to buy a specialized ruler, whereas there's a tutorial on doing 10 minute cathedral windows that I would rather do. Haven't done it yet, but it's at the top of the list.

You might take a look at http://quiltingwithcharlie.com/ I have seen her demonstrate her techniques and was intrigued.

I used a plate to make mine. I didn't even know the ruler existed until I saw it on this board.

kso-that's a very interesting way, but still doesn't look nearly as fast as the 10 minute cathedral windows, the video on that used 5 layer cakes and NO special rulers or templates and was truly fast.

i have the charlie templates and patterns. i have seen her daughter's demo several times at shows. really like her. they have patterns for many flower type quilt tops, table toppers, etc. using this technique. it is really easy once you get the hang of it.

Thank you all for sharing. Since I'm doing the Rob Peter, there are only 2 colors, so I'm not sure how it will look with this method. But anything (for me) is better than paper piecing and/or cutting templates!

Thank you for sending that link! I feel so inspired to try it with a regular circle template rather than buying the ruler. You're my hero! :)

Glad to be of help. I wish people didn't feel they have to buy every gadget that comes on the market.
