I took where we made turtles using a machine stitched circle with a background and I can't remember how to do this...it was over 3 years ago but had to leave before I finished the blocks and now want to finish it. It was really clever and no hand sewing. Does anyone know this method or where I can find it. I've gone into some sites but they have raw edges, applique or whatever. Although I like other methods I liked the sewing machine stitching the best. I haven't had time to quilt for a few years due to DH illness but want to finish up some old projects.

cut your circle, and cut a circle out of your background fabric slightly smaller than your circle, lay the background fabric on your workingspace right side of fabric down and your circle on top of the hole right side down as well, now pin the inside of the hole ( so rightsides of fabric facing) to the outside of your circle and sew.
I hope this makes sense, if not i have seen a tutorial somewhere online, will try to find the link and post it.

Thank you for the info. The tutorial is a good one but we didn't do it that way. I've decided to call the shop tomorrow and see if the owner can help me. She did not teach the class but maybe she can put me in touch with the lady who taught the class. I remember cutting the whole in the back but that is about it but i'm missing something in the tutorial. I remember we did something that I hadn't done before and believe me I've made over 100 different styles of quilts. I love learning something new so will try this way if all else fails. I love circle quilts as you can do so much with them.
