Circle Quilting

If you wanted to machine quilt various sized circles all over your quilt, how would you go about that?

Would you just mark them out and FMQ them? Or, is there an accessory to make circles with?

are you talking about big circles like dishes or tiny circles like bubbles/pebbles?

I can do pebbles freehand but larger circles are hard to keep perfectly round. I might look for a circle ruler to go against my ruler foot if I had them.

I'm thinking larger circles like saucers/small plates with some pebbles thrown in.

I have a ruler foot but I'm not very good with it. I suppose this could be my chance to practice, except I want different sizes.

Well if tried something like that I can guarantee you they would all be different sizes (and shapes!) :)
I love your questions on this board. I've learned a lot from your questions. Keep them coming.

If you're doing this on a domestic sewing machine, you can use a circle sewing attachment or use the thumb tack technique to make various sizes of circles....

I have a large assortment of 1/4" thick plastic templates for my longarm.

I mark mine & sew them FMQ. This was for a quilt for my niece, so it didn't need to be 100% perfect. For a competition quilt, I'd probably invest in a ruler foot. But if you go slow (& especially if you use a matching thread -- I used 40wt Aurifil in a matching color here), you will get something that looks pretty good -- sorry, haven't had time to bind & wash it yet. The one thing I would do differently though, is to cut a plastic template & use that rather than trying to make a compass work. Even the locking compass threw things off a bit depending on the angle at which I held it. The other issue was that I am absolutely terrible at piecing, so I ended up having to fudge a bunch of my blocks because I strip pieced them using my ruler backwards & forwards (backwards had a thin line, forwards had a thick one, so they ended up 1/16" off on bunch of my pieces). So I made all my blocks 1/8" smaller & had to adjust my quilting design accordingly.

I either draw them on the fabric first, or use the circular attachment for my machine.
