http://3creativestudios.com/freeprojects/circle.pdf I will give it a go later on this week. I think I might do a demonstration for our guild next month. Thanks! I had read online about a thumb tack and masking tape but I have to admit it just wasn't sinking in until I actually saw it - thanks! It's definitely a lot cheaper than buying the attachment when you will probably only use it a handful of times. |
What a wonderful idea. I must try the tack method!
peace :D |
I have one. But since my sewing room is being renovated since before I got the attachment. I can't use it yet.
It's killing me.lol But I am sure looking forward to it. |
I've used the upper one many times on a
babylock, and it works great. I think if you don't want to stablize the fabric....Starch the heck out of your fabric first, that just might stablize it enough. FYI, after making a few of these squares and please try a number of your decrative stitches...way fun, now cut the blocks into smaller squares and include them in your next quilt project. Your gonna love it! Enjoy! |
We did a project at a quilt show using the thumb tack method.
The design was to applique circles onto squares for the blocks. We set the thumb tack and sewed a bastng stitch circle and then cut out the circle leaving about a 1/2" seam allowance outside the stitching. Then we took a used CD and placed in center and drew up the basting threads and tied the thread. Evened out the edges and pressed with a steam iron and had a perfect circle that then was machine appliqued to the square. Cut the circle from the back of the appliqeed circle and then trimmed the seam allowance. It made a really quick block. The heat from the iron didn't effect the cd. |
thumb tack works just fine

I have done the thumb tack method and probably wouldn't buy an attachment. I wouldn't use it that much to justify the cost and I love gadgets, just want them to be something I would use.

I have one for my Bernina's. It works great! The circle can't be any larger than your throat, but I do love it, and have used it several times.

Great idea, will try the thumbtack idea. I love gadgets too and everything I've gotten from Distinctive has been great; SID foot, rolled hem, etc. Many thanks.

I have the Janome attachment, and ... not totally happy with it. There's a little cover that's supposed to hold the fabric on the sharp tack and also protect you from the sharp point, but it seems to come off very easily, and the fabric doesn't stay on the point.
