Today I spent 8 hours cleaning out half of my quilting books and magazines and 1/3 of the fabric. When I looked at the pile, I knew I could never have the time to photograph it and sell it anywhere and no time for yard sale. So I will call the big sisters to pick up all the stuff- at last count 10-12 trash bags of stuff.
Feels good to be able to move again in that room. |
why are you getting rid of your quilting things?
|
I'm in the thick of doing the same thing! But I'm doing a complete overhaul- way over-due.
Nice that you gave it all to someone who can use it, plus you can get around your room again! I can't wait to announce the same thing lol :D:D |
Does this mean you won't buy more treasures? Carolyn
|
No, but I'm going to be much more selective-- there is no way I can ever use it all-- why waste money on something I don't need.

I have been going through about 10 years worth of quilting magazines. I have found that there are an average of TWO patterns in each magazine that I want to keep. I cut them out, put them in plastic sleeves and I'm taking the magazines to our next quilt group retreat. Feels so good to clear up the space.

I'm cleaning, organizing, revamping the sewing space these days, too.
I find it interesting how many of us are doing this sort of thing as the industry changes styles and prices. Perhaps if the manufacturers were watching more closely they'd be coming up with more ways/tools/books to streamline our work spaces rather than just dealing with fabric/cotton prices for the next year or so. Watch out-there are people out there just waiting to get you when you THINK you are de-cluttering, or de-stashing! :>)
After making a good start at my mess, someone called with "some boxes" of fabric as they did not want to throw it away. 25 boxes of mostly pol knits later, I have more than I did before I started to de-stash! However, I gave away three boxes today, and have someone coming for more tomorrow, and am sending a bunch to the new kids quilting club in the chino valley...there were some poly cotton blends which already fond a home to be picked up Wed., and two boxes of VINTAGE cottons and muslin, which I really did need to finish family memory quilts..... |
