Cleaning Iron Plate
What was I thinking????? I just pressed a cloth napkin with my favorite iron, not thinking about the fabric NOT being 100% cotton. I don't know what the fabric was, but now I've got a coat of black gook on the iron plate. I've tried all the conventional remedies little success. I've got a bottle of jellied oven cleaner that does a fantastic job on my oven (got it from an industrial cleaning supply store). Dare I try it on my steal iron plate, whatcha think???

I always use waxed paper to clean my iron's sole plate. I learned that from my Mom years ago. Whatever you use - Good Luck. :):):)

Try the "magic eraser" from the cleaning supplies section of your grocery store. Worked for me!

when I've done something like this (and believe me, you either have already done it or will do it one day), I've brought the cooled iron to the kitchen sink, brillo-ed it until clean, rinsed rinsed rinsed. Then, before I use it again, I iron the waxy side of a piece of waxed paper. Voila! good as new.

I do alot of fusible applique so get alot of gunk on my iron, I use goo gone you can get it at Walmart. Just spray it on and wipe it off. Has lots of uses, sticky from tape, gum all kinds of things.

great advice as my daughter used my iron this week and got fusible on it. going to give these ideas a whirl.

Magic Eraser works great!

How about a simple tube of iron cleaner, find at walmart next to the spray starch, I use it all the time with an old piece of towel, makes iron like new.

Sharon Schamber has youtube video showing how to clean iron with magic eraser. Works relly well!
