Whats the most effective way to clean a nonstick iron? The residue has to be from the minerals in the tap water. I've tried vinegar, salt, all purpose spray cleaner, comet, my nails AND a SOS pad (bad choice on that one).
Thanks for any help

you must use distilled water in an iron,or used a spray bottle. I don't know how you would clean it, you seemed have done everything that i would have tried ( except for the sos).

To clean the soul plate, the best thing I have found is to run the iron over a wet Mr Clean eraser. The iron can be warm or cold. Just wet the eraser as usual, place it on a towel and rub the iron over it. Comes clean quickly and easily.

My Black & Decker iron instructions said to us spring water. I just cleaned the plate with salt. Took off all starch and sticky from glue.

Used dryer sheets are amazing for cleaning the bottom of the iron. My black and decker recommends tap water, but could go 1/2&1/2 with distilled if really hard water. Now with a water softner I have no problem with tap water.

I bought a package of iron cleaning sheets at a quilt show. Brand name is Ironslide Iron Clean, the best iron cleaner I have used. 10 sheets per pack and I'm still on my first sheet.

Bed Bath and Beyond also carry an iron cleaner that works great.

Hi,

Our Joann Fabrics has a Rowenta iron cleaning kit....you put this cream stuff on a cloth and iron it and then there is another cloth you iron on and it takes the stuff off.... I use it when I get stuff on my iron soleplate from applique or too much spray starch etc.

Just an idea....has worked well for my problems.

How to clean an iron. Place a brown paper bag on the ironing board and sprinkle the bag with salt. Then iron the salt to make your iron nice and clean. Carefully fold the bag in half and por the salt into a cup to save for another cleaning.
