what is the consensus on invisible 'thread' here? i want something clear or smokey. i don't want it to break if someone sits on the bed, so it needs some stretch, but i want it to return to it's original length. i don't want it to break in the longarm needle.

has anyone used any? did you use nylon or poly? what brand? where did you get it? what did you use in the bobbin? is it hard to wind on the bobbin or does it pull too tight?

i like a 40-weight on the longarm and the clear stuff i've seen is thin, so i have questions about it's serviceability. is it so hard to work with that it's simply not worth it?

If you us it, I would suggest the poly...That way, it won't melt if you have it in a hot dryer or if you need to iron a spot. I'm not a fan of the nylon thread, it can be so stiff....

i use all the time and never had an issue.

the only thing i can say is that i've never used it on a quilt that was going to be slept with and washed - its only been used on art quilts.

Upper and bobbin thread Klue? I too have wondered how it would sind on the bobbin.

yes i put the thread in both the top and the bobbin - i've found it gives me the best results when its in both.

BW, I've used clear thread in all my quilts, top thread, not bobbin, and they have all been washed lots. My avatar quilt has been well used and washed without any problems. I use a regular14 needle, and regular thread in the bobbin. Shouldn't be any problem. Use .004.

I mistyped, it is .004 (I checked the spool) and yes you can put it in the dryer. I don't have anything in my house that doesn't go in the washer and dryer including silk, bra's etc. I have both poly & nylon.

The thread is not stiff or hard, and so far I haven't had any breaks or toenail hangers. But I've only washed my quilts a dozen or so times, so time will tell. My quilt expert, who has been quilting professionally for over 30 years uses it almost exclusively. And she says (I just phoned her) that you can use it in your bobbin too. In fact, she is now living in BFE, and she wants me to go to one of the wholesale drapery companies and buy her a HUGE 2 pound cone of it before I come visit her next month for a quilt lock-in weekend.

I did one quilt with a nylon thread a long time ago and it held up under heavy use and many washings and dryings. Since then I decided that I wanted to see my quilting stitches and use regular thread.

I occasionally use .004 nylon for the quilt top I guess because I didn't want the top thread to show. You know, I have never used it in my bobbin because I wasn't sure if I could or not. I just learned another new thing here...

I have used the black nylon on some sweatshirts...didn't use it in the bobbin, I used regular thread. These sweatshirts have been washed and dried a lot and are still fine...

Nylon invisible thread will stretch and can cause breakage problems. Poly is much stronger and will not stretch. I was told never to use the invisible thread in any baby or young child's quilt. I mostly use it in the bobbin and quilt on the back side of the quilt with matching thread for the back.
