Clearly Perfect Slotted trimmer anyone?
 

I am considering buying this but the price has held me back. Does anyone here have any experience using it? Do you think it is worth the high(?) price?

I hadn't seen it before, but I watched a video of it being used. I prefer to trim HST's after they're pressed open, when you know how much the seam is going to take up, so I would not use this tool. It was interesting that the person making the video commented that she has never made an HST, but now would never make one without this tool. Huh?

I would rather purchase a Bloc Lock one. I have an Eleanor Burns one that works fine for me. Very similar but does not cut off the dog ears.

I have been going back and forth about purchasing this but, like you, the high cost holds me back. And I’m not sure if the ruler is any better than what I currently use. I would love to just make one cut - as opposed to 4 which I do with the June Tailor HST ruler - but I hate to waste money if it doesn’t work. Keep us posted what you decide.

I also had doubts about this trimmer, but purchased it anyway through Amazon. I just love it. I have never enjoyed making HSTs, too easy for them to get wonky on me. And I really don't like trimming blocks to size, but since this one makes it easy to trim the dog ears and you don't have to use a rotating cutting mat I think I will be using it for HSTs from now on.

I watched the June Tailor video above. It was just another gadget that does the same thing as other rulers I already have. I don't see any advantage to it. In fact, I have never seen any advantage to June Tailor things-just more money. I feel the same way about Marti Mitchell rulers. I have recently been taking a Judy Neimeyer class and she recommended a Marti Mitchell ruler for cutting odd angles. I bought it but it certainly was a waste of money. The angles were printed on the foundation paper and a simple ruler worked just fine. Oh well, lesson learned-again!

I use the Eleanor Burns ruler for trimming HSTs just as luvstoquilt301 ​does. It works and isn't expensive compared to some others.

I guess there is "gadget" for everyone. While I am not a gadget girl, I do love the June Tailor Shape cut ruler. I use it all the time and if I lost it would purchase another. Wish I could say the same for a few other gadgets I have purchased for both sewing and/or kitchen use.

As for the Slotted Trim Tool, it may be costly but if it makes your sewing more enjoyable, then why not. If you belong to a guild, they will sometimes purchase a product, have several test it, and make a report back to guild members. Just a thought on getting a honest opinion instead of the person trying to sell you one.
