"Last edited by QuiltnNan; Yesterday at 11:31 AM. Reason: remove shouting/ all CAPS" I must have missed something?? ....Where is the rule that you can't use caps?? |
No rule, but most people follow internet etiquette (netiquette) which equates all capital letters with shouting. If people have vision problems with regular typing, then it is better to increase font size rather than type with all caps.

I think I would contact the client - advise her that most flannels shrink - then ask her what she would like you to do with it?
|
Flannel quilts up beautifully. I’ve made many, many flannel quilts over the years, prewashed, not prewashed, some fabrics prewashed others not in the same quilt. They are all beautiful. Many things play into the shrinkage issue. Batting used, quality of the flannel, amount ( density) of the quilting, amount / size of piecing. Everything factors in. If the top is pieced it needs to be quilted and bound before laundering.

I purchase only high quality flannels and never wash them prior to piecing, my longarmer quilts them and once washed the krinkle up to resemble antique quilts. Exactly the the way I want them to look. Perhaps the is the look your. Us tomorrow wants as well. But to be on the safe side, just check with her to let her know your concerns.

My "antique" everyday quilts had not "crinkle" in them because they were made from used garments and probably had batting from old sheets or blankets. So they were flat.

Client Quilt Unwashed Flannel Again and clarified?
Sorry my first attempt was so vague??
The quilt is queen sized and already assembled by the client. I am quilting it. She is aware it will shrink after washing but heaven know when that will happen. I'm drawing the pattern on as I go, pinning every inch as I quilt. I'm quilting nothing but interlocking circles. ( air erasable marker.) If I don't pin, it moves and scoots all over. 2 passes on the quilt are all I can comfortable manage in 2 to 3 hours. It seems to be working, but oh is it slow. |
oh my, don't take on another put together quilt. I wish you tons of luck ((())).
