cloth book advice
 

I am making a couple of cloth books for an upcoming birthday gift to one year old twins. Will the books be ok with thin batting and not poufy batting? I am using fusible fleece, which is very thin. But I don't plan on quilting the pages much, if at all. I have no experience with babies or toddlers!

Sorry I'm no help, but thanks for starting this thread. I need good advice on this also. #1 son & wife will be attempting to start a family soon and as a school librarian I Have to make some books!

You could use a flannel in the center of the pages. Be sure to pre-wash because flannel shrinks. If you use much for batting, when you try to stitch the pages together in the middle, it will be too think to get under the presser foot.. Books are fun to make and easy to wash. That is important with toddlers. You dont need much quilting on each page. A simple outline will do.

I make on of thee little books... I always use flannel (well washed/dried).

Thanks! I'll have to see if I have flannel. I do have thin cotton batting too. I guess there's no right or wrong way!

A friend of mine has made these several times and she uses thin batting so I would think the thin fleece would work too. They turned out really cute.

I make these all the time for my GKs. I use whatever I have on hand scrap-wise.

I have made several of these cloth books and fusible fleece is great. I sew around the outside of the pages about 1/4 inch and it makes a big difference is the neatness.

Personally I think it would work better with a thin batting.
