I bought a panel to make my nephew a cloth book. What is the best type of batting to use in between the 'pages'? I've never made one before.

I use Hobbs, Ultra-Thin batting. My Hancocks has stopped carrying this so I will look elsewhere. It washes good, is thin and inexpensive.

I have used just regular polyester batting.

I used the thin batting, but also put a sheet of that cellophane in as well so the pages crinkle when the kids read them. It washes okay too, as long as there is just a little bit of stitching to hold it in place.

My sister makes these and uses the cellophane in one or two pages. She also uses other things like clear vinyl, a Mylar looking substance (for mirrors), buttons, ribbons, small zippers, large snaps, velcro and anything else she can think of to make the more interesting. If it's going to be used for what she calls "church books" (quiet ones) she eases up on the embellishments. She usually uses a thin poly batting but she's also used prewashed terrycloth, flannel and heavy muslin.

How much quilting you want to do on the pages may dictate which batting you may want to use. These cloth books got a LOT of washings around here LOL so I quilted the dickens out of them, so they would hold up better. I think most of these were made with cotton batting. :D:D:D

thanks ladies!!

You can see the dog panel on this page. Not a very big pic, but you can tell it's colorful.

sounds really nice. have you seen "charity" quilts crafted out of the cloth books, set up in horizontal rows. those are fun.
