collage and one block wonder aha moment
 

I am a bit (to put it mildly) OCD when it comes to collage and one block wonder projects. My analytic side gets in my way and I fret over the optimal piece placement. I can't just use the random placement method. But today, I had a most amazing discovery. I was working on a collage without my glasses. I found I did better with limited vision. I tend to be too analytical studying the print and forcing patterns; but with my glasses off, the motifs were blurry and I could see only the colorway rather than the exact motif. I finished my project in record time.

Won't work for me. Maybe I can pick up a pair of really strong dollar store glasses.

Interesting concept - - - -

I use my camera and take pics. Often looking at the quilt on a small screen gives me a better perspective. I had a friend who said that she would put her blocks on a wall and stand back and squint at them. She swore she could see mistakes better that way. I'm glad the no-glasses approach works for you. I might try it some time.

Sometimes turning your back to the quilt hanging on your design wall and looking at it through a mirror over your shoulder will help "distance" yourself from the individual blocks, giving you an overall perspective. Or through the wrong end of a pair of binoculars.

I've found that I also look much better in the mirror when my glasses are off.

I had lasik surgery over 10 years ago, after a lifetime of nearsightedness. worked great, but one thing I miss is being able to take my glasses off when looking at a Christmas tree ... the lights are so beautiful when they're out-of-focus.
