I save mine. I have a couple of projects I want to use them to make.

I save them...lol...I ought to get them out and make something for show and tell tonight. I will post a pic if I do.
I cut mine 1" wide.

I collect selvage edges from fleece blankets. Braid 3 pieces together, and make a rug or small bath mat by sewing by hand the edges, circles, oblong. Neat to step out of shower and can be used in dog crate and smaller ones for coasters. Also use the squares cut from corners of fleece tie blankets and serge them together for a throw blanket. Give to Battered women's shelter.

I have made a number of quilts out of selvage edges, some for charity, some for myself. I'll try and attach a photo of one. Wish I could have had it quilted. Well, I couldn't get the picture of the quilt to come up but here's the selvage pillow.

I use any size from 3/4 inch up to 1 1/4 inch and vary them throughout the project. It is amazing how few it takes to make something.
