College quilt
 

I want to make a college quilt for my granddaughter who is graduating from high school in may. I want to use the license college materials. With black colors. I was thinking a star pattern. Help I need ideas.

If you are using licensed fabrics the pattern may be fairly large. You want a pattern that doesn't require all your pieces to be cut small. Also, you don't mention your skill level. I would recommend Warm Wishes or a Double 4-Patch to preserve your focus fabric.

Also, keep in mind that dorm beds are extra long twins, so you want to take that into consideration while you are planning.

I am doing the same but my DGSon's college does not have licensed fabric, only the blue and gold colors. I have not even started his because his eagle project is finished and I have to make a quilt for that plus a quilt for graduation. I guess I will get is done. He wants a T-shirt quilt done of all the scout tees and since the World Jamboree is in W. Va. this summer, he wants to include those tees to. Grammy has to do this he said.

I have been quilting for 8 years, so made many quilts. . I don't want to make the same block all the time. Trying to expand my level to make more challenging blocks quilts. Thanks for all your help..

Rail Star by Jenny Doan (Missouri Star Quilting Co.) is easy and uses fairly large pieces. One I made for a 2018 grad is now with him at U. of Nebraska.[ATTACH=CONFIG]606488[/ATTACH]

Before you decide on pattern, I would see what fabrics are available. I have made several Ole Miss quilts. They have 2 licensed fabrics, that's it. One is a hideous squares print that is almost impossible to cut straight. I went with red and blue fabrics mostly on that one. But I have also made a Florida quilt where there are about 6 different licensed prints. Much easier to work with. I would choose a simple pattern like D9P or pinwheels.

Some of these licensed fabrics are not straight! I made a pillow case for a Texas Tech student for Christmas from TT licensed fabric and had a heck of a time getting it straight, especially since it was directional......as maybe they all are.
