I am making a barn bag and farm animals for my grand nephew for his first birthday and I want to wash the fabric to make sure there is nothing on it to harm him if he chews on it. I was wondering if the color catchers will work inside a mesh bag where I plan to wash the fat quarters I have to make the animals? I have used them before but not in a mash bag. Thanks for the info.

I don't put the FQs into a mesh bag ... just toss them right into the machine!

I've heard others say that they wash fabric and add color catchers to mesh bags. Just make sure there is plenty of room for the fabrics to swish about freely.

Do the fabrics bleed? You can test for that with a wet Q-tip. If they don't bleed, no need for a Color Catcher. If they do, I'd wash them by hand with a Catcher.
Just doesn't seem like there'd be enough room for things to move around in a mesh bag and if there's a runner in there, it will sit on other fabrics no matter what you do. Just my opinion. ETA: If one of your fabrics is a runner, you'll have to know which one in order to wash it over and over until it stops. Otherwise, it will continue to run when chewed. |
I think it will be fine. If I recall correctly, the directions on the package for front loaders are to put in a mesh bag first.

i always wash my fat quarters in a mesh bag. it works for me. give them plenty of room.

Thanks for the information. I use a front loader that is on the small side and I will probably just toss them in so that they get washed well.
