Keep using them until no color appears on the catcher. Rather safe then sorry, especially if a lot of red is used in the quilt. It's heartbreaking to see colors bleed or run after you've invest so much time, love an $$ into a quilt. I often gift a package of the color catchers when I give away a quilt with vivid colors.

I tested the detergent by putting a known bleeding red fabric and a piece of white muslin in the wash with some colored towels. No color on the muslin. I imagine a color catcher sheet used with the detergent would insure a quilt will not be ruined by bleeding fabric.
