Color choice for applique thread?
 

When you use the blanket stitch stich on your machine OR blanket stitch by hand, do you match the thread color to the fabric, use darker color in same color family OR just use black, brown, or other dark color? or as light color know choice is whatever floats your boat, but what do you io? lol

It all depends on whether you want to emphasize the stitching or have in disappear into the background.

I try to match the appliqué fabric closely, here is a sample of mine.

I have seen it done many ways. The way you will know for sure on your project would be to test it out. I really most often will do it the way thimblebug is showing in her cute block. Sometimes I do like to use the thread to be an accent with a darker thread color to "shadow" The piece edges. I used to use black on the old-time sunbonnets but I changed to a white to kind of update the block to a modern feel. It really is maker's choice and what looks good to you. Julie.

For me, it depends the "look" that I want the quilt to have.
Most times, I probably go like ThimbleBug and use an assortment of matching threads.
Less invisible, plus if I goof up and am not as precise as I would like to be, it will show less.

Though going with a contrasting colour can give a nice different look.
Contrasting throughout the whole project with one colour, works too.

Like has often been said before ... there is no one right way, but whatever you choose, is your right way!

I used the same color, medium grey, for this satin stitch applique. I could not tell the thread color from the pic. Luckily, I am staring at the quilt right now, so I inspected personally. You decide.

I like to match my thread to the item I'm appliqueing, but that is because my stitches aren't all that even, no matter how hard I try. If your stitches are fairly evenly spaced and you want to emphasize them, a contrasting color - even black - is great.
