Hi,

I am making a quilt for my neice when she graduates from law school. I have the pantone numbers for the school colors - does anyone know if I would be able to find a correlation between fabrics and the color charts?

If you have the pantone chip, take that to the fabric shop. I don't know of any way to get the formula for colors.

Maybe an email to a manufacturer to see if they use pantone numbers to make fabric.

Good luck!

(I used to love playing with the pantone color chips- like playing with paint chips, all the colors of the rainbow and then some)

These sound interesting. What is a pantone.

If memory serves, pantone numbers are the "Master List" of all the colors and tones. Company logos and School Colors are a very specific color and you can get that from this list. :?

If you need Pantone chips, I have them. The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is used in the design industry to regulate colors (i.e., Coke red is always a certain PMS color).

Wow Chele...I'm convinced now that you do know everything. I have a background in design and had never heard of these, and if I had, then I forgot

I'm also scared of PMS #s...DH said he would run!!

I realize my response is a little late, sorry.
I believe Sherwin Williams paint stores make use of Pantone colors, so you should be able to get paint chips from there if you don't already have them. Home Depot advertizes that they will match any color (let's face it, most large stores have the latest paint matching equipment). So even if you don't have a paint chip, if you can get your hands on a souvenir from the school, you could take that to the paint dept.
I think it's wonderful that you are attempting to match the school colors exactly. If you are unsure of your chips, you could call the school. There must be someone who can give you a person to contact for help if you haven't already found enough help from the nice people here. If indeed there is a contact affiliated with the school's merchandising, they might also know where you can get your hands on fabric specifically made/dyed for the school products. I assume that would be solid colors.
Good luck!
