Does anyone struggle with color choices? I am a country gal, tend to stay with sedate colors but love the brightness of all the quilts, projects I've been seeing on the board. Does anyone know where you can purchase collections that are a mix of country and "flair" for wants of a better word? My old quilts, I tended to do in two colors (log cabins) and do them up in a white or off white with say a red. Really would like to tip toe out of my comfort zone, just a bit.

Browse the online fabric shops by Collection. You will see coordinated designs in colors that all go together.

A brighter set of blues, with yellows for the lights? :D:D:D

Look at the different collections, many have lights offered with their prints. Like at Moda's website or the other manufacturers. There you can see the whole collection, maybe you can find one that floats your boat :D:D:D

Have you looked at Morrison Tapestry line or Morris work Shop? It is more muted, there are a lot of patterns and colors yet they are not overly matchy. They all "match" yet are off enough to make it interesting. I tend to be overly confident with colors. Buying from a line that has many differrent prints and colors can get you out of the two tone and at the same time help make sure they go together.

Have you thought about French Country? It will lighten the scene.

Tulip, I had to laugh at the title! I agree to get out of your comfort zone. You can always go back to it! I have that problem too sometimes :D

I just ordered from Connecting Threads, the most wonderful charm and stack collections of 24 different fabrics. If you buy a couple of those and then add either a black or white tone on tone ( neutral ) you would be able to do a beautiful colorful pattern without worry about ''matching'' colors. Their collections all 'color match'.......have fun......I do a lot of scrappy quilts and pink looks just fine next to orange or lime green!! Sounds funny but it always works....

ps....most stores or on line stores, offer fabric line collections in charms, stacks, turnovers, jelly rolls etc. all the fabrics in one collection are meant to be used together.....I usually add a white or black to give the eye a place to rest in the pattern.

If a picture REALLY calls to you, take a copy (or a list) with you to choose those colors!

I have problems with colour too...I don't have issues using brights, or finding coordinating colours, my problem comes in contrast - I tend to choose all colours for a quilt with the same value. They contrast against each other...but nothing POPS value-wise. I'm working on it. LOL

I just use what turns me on and hope the quilt police doesn't come over

You might want to join this group that are doing a mystery quilt. This seems to be a controlled scrappy quilt. I think its really going to be fun. I'm printing off the steps and will get really after it right after Christmas. :)
