> on color red
I am going to make a dis. nine patch table runner using Moda's Blueberry crumble. I have noticed the effect of using reds but don't want to use an orange red. Thinking of crimson or cranberry (blue/red) for a few additional squares. Friend has suggested using soft brown or greens, but I would really like to use a red. Any suggestion appreciated. Haven't found anything on line yet. Will go to J's next week to use my Christmas gift certificate. TIA

Well, an orange red is the combeinatyion for red and yellow, which are the compliments of blue, that's why it seems to work well with blue. Crimson and cranberry, on the other hand, have blue in them so often various yellows will work well with them.
I'd suggest taking your Blueberry Crumble with you and audition many different reds (and even other colors!) right on top of them in the shop. Ask others for their take on it. Try to allow your brain-on-crimson mindset to be objective during this process, it might surprise you what you come up with. :o Jan in VA |
I too love the blue-reds. I might use a soft green or grey-green with that. Of course you have to put them together to see how they look. Use the colors you love!

Sometimes the different color in a small amount highlights all the others. So, you may want to try just a bit of that orange red. Like Jan wrote: audition them with what you have.
