I am getting ready to quilt my most recent lapsized quilt. The focal point is a large star with darker fabrics, but there are several white areas. I plan to SITD on the star and meander the remainder. The backing is dark blue. My question, should I change thread colors for the meander depending on whether it is the white or dark and maintain the dark for the backing or should I meander the white in dark thread also?

even with white thread the quilting is really going to show up on the white fabric, if you use white on top and dark on bottom you will most likely have dark pokies (thread dots) that will show. if it were MY quilt, i would use dark on dark top and bottom and white on white top and bottom

I'd use a variegated blue.

Thank you for asking. This is exactly where I am at. I wanted variegated, but couldn't get it in my color. I'm going to use the light rust in the colors, cream in the cream and try to leave the rust on the bobbin. If it shows, I'll change it. If the flowers I plan for the cream areas come out decent, I will go over them in rust. Dreamer!

In your case, I'd use variegated blue all over.
