Which Color Would You Quilt this Quilt
 

I'm trying to decide between the red and the navy. Which would you choose?[ATTACH=CONFIG]532814[/ATTACH]

I like the red.

Either would look great. You'll get a more even look overall if you choose the red. It will show up in both the squares and the sashing. The navy will kinda disappear in the sashing. It only matters which look you prefer.

You ask what colour I would choose if I was quilting... definitely the blue as I'm not that great at machine quilting and wouldn't want it to stand out. I think if you use the red it will change the overall "colour" of your quilt to a variegated look, and if that's what you would like then go for it!

You have sort of chosen a reproduction print so I wouldn't use the red. It screams too much. I would think you would want something more subtle.

If the red or blue are my only choices, I would pick the blue. However; if I were doing custom quilting on it I would use a navy thread on the blue fabric and to SID the red border, then I would change to a dark beige or cream to quilt the light blocks. Just my thought.

If you are going to do some "fancy" stitching, I'd choose the red so it would show off your work. Otherwise, I use the blue to keep the quilt in the same color wave.

You don't say if you intend hand quilting, or machine, stitch in the ditch, straight line, free motion? IF by machine, then I would say *not* the red. I'd match thread to the areas of the quilt, so navy on the solid areas and cream on the light print. My rule for myself is that if I want my FMQ to show up, I use a thread a couple of shades lighter than the fabric -- so it is visible, but it doesn't dominate. Lighter marking on a darker background is less jarring and more forgiving of the potential skewed stitch here or there.
