I would think they would need them sooner than the deadline as it is cold and snowing in quake area. good idea though.

I'm wondering about the postage costs to send quilts to Japan. Wouldn't they be substantial?
|
There was someone on board who posted about making quilts and I believe sending them somewhere in the midwest, then they would send them to Japan, I didn't bookmark the page, because I still won't be out of this cast for another 3 weeks.

I don't know that's a good question, i posted a comment on there and asked, we will see if we get a reply.

Equilter site info was posted here as saying where to send quilts. somewhere in Ohio and they send them.
|
oh, maybe we just need to look on here and see if we can find it then, sorry didnt know it was already posted.
|
I think just mailing a mass amount of quilts will be a problem without a secure contact that can handle the delivery and distribution. Most agencies are swamped with logistics as they are.
|
equilter.com is in contact with an agency in OH that will ship them to Japan. Just have to pay postage to OH. Go to their website for more info.

our natural and immediate instinct as quilters is to head for the workroom in a time like this.
somebody very sensibly pointed out in another post, though, that Japan is more desperately in need of money for food, clean water, temporary shelters, care for the sick and injured, and for reconstruction. our generous gifts of quilts would be difficult for them to receive and distribute right now. i would recommend that all who want to make a comfort quilt for eventual donation to a Japanese charity go ahead and work on them, but please don't plan to send them for at least a few months. |
