Comic Board Help
 

Okay, so I ordered the comic boards from Amazon to help me organize my stash because so many of you said they were great. They are 6 7/8 x 10 1/2 and the thickness was not specified. I figured they are all the same. They came today and I'm thinking they are too thin to be stable enough to wrap fabric around. I'm afraid to open the package because then I won't be able to return them. Did I order the wrong thing, or is this all there is to them? They are the Ultra Pro Comic Series Regular Size Boards, 100 to a pack. They were the cheapest ones, but the reviews from people who actually used them for fabric was good. Am I just being a sceptic? Thanks for any comments.

I have never used the comic book boards but I believe that some people use 2 of them to give it more stability. I'm sure that someone that has used them will come along soon and give you more information. I bought acid free foam board sheets at the local Dollar Tree and cut it with my old rotary cutter. I cut my pieces 5" X 12" and I got either 9 or 10 pieces from each sheet. Bonus is that it only cost a $1 a sheet! (yes, I made sure it was acid free first!) I bought 40 sheets because I have a rather large stash.

That's the thickness they are. You should be OK with a single board up to about 1-1 1/2 yds. Over that, use two. Finished doing mine about two months ago, and have bought almost no fabric since, because I can find what I have so well.

I use those same comic boards from Amazon. But I only use them for lengths of fabric 2 yards or less. They won't stand up on their own, but when they're lined up on a shelf with others next to them or with some sort of "bookend," they do fine. If you want more weight, just use two of them but you can't put too much fabric on even then. They're still pretty cost effective.

For lengths more than 2 yards, I fold them with a ruler then fold in half and store flat on a shelf. That way I know I have at least 2 yards of fabric.

Thank you, ladies, so much. I'm glad I've got the right boards because I'm eager to get started. I'll be so glad to get my fabric out in the open and out of plastic bins. Then maybe I'll use some of it. I have very few pieces that are more than 1 1/2 yards, but if I do I'll use two or three boards. I had them pictured in my mind more like poster board. Maybe I'll post a picture when I get my room all finished. I've done the painting -- now ready to reorganize (that might take me awhile!!).

I have done up to 5 yds using just 1 board and have not had any problems.

So glad I finally got all of my fabric put on boards and on the shelfs. I measured all of mine before I put on boards. Had a roll of adding machine tape and wrote the yardage and if it was washed or not and put that, sticking out a little bit, in the folds. Not I know how much and if I need to wash. After I use some of the fabric, just adjust the yardage. You will love the look after you get every thing done.

I like the comic boards. To hold fabric I used the large coated paper clips Staples or Walmart.
