Wondering what operating system does everyone have for their Bernina 440QE embroidery machine? I am in the process of purchasing computer and I was told not to get Windows 7. Most computers being sold right now have that operating system. Also what computer do you find works well for this....

I have WindowsXP. My hubby just got me a netbook so I don't have to lug the full sized laptop to classes. Although I have to change the screen resolution and fiddle with the image of EC on PC a little, it works great!

I don't have one, maybe someday.

Uh oh... I have xp now, but just ordered a new laptop with 7...perhaps I'll have to save this laptop for my sewing. I told the kids they can use it, but perhaps I'll have to rethink that! What have you heard about Windows 7?

I've had the 440QE with embroidery unit for almost 3 years, and I've only used the embroidery in class. My laptop has XP, but our new desktop has 7, and I was considering putting it on the laptop. Have you been told specifically that the embroidery software is not compatible with 7? If that's the case, perhaps Bernina will be putting out a version that is compatible?

My Bernina dealer told me that Bernina was going to do a patch. Has anyone else heard that, and if so what would I need to do to get the patch? I am so confused right now, but want to get the computer so I can use the emboidery module. Guess I am wondering also if anyone has used it on 7.

I just sent an email to Bernina to ask about this issue. I will let you know the outcome. On the other hand, I did a search on this topic and on one board the person said it hung up while installation, another said to try again and relayed what they did. Here is the link to the conversation:

I have a laptop XP that works great with my 440. I also have a Vista PC....it doesn't work great. The company
you need to get in touch with is OESD embroidery.
There are patches on the website, don't know if there
are any for the Windows 7....but I had to put 5 patches on my Vista in order for it to work. It may be that it is
just too soon for them to have been informed of any patches needed for the Windows 7.....I upgraded to Version 6 software and they are just now getting the gliches in the quilting software part....from the quilters using the software. Good luck with your trials and trebulations. If your Bernina dealer is anything like mine they will work hard to get you up and embroidering soon!
