Computerized embroidery machine question

Someone suggested I come on this board to get the help I am in dire need of.

I was given a Husqvarna embroidery machine that is approximately 10 yrs old. This one uses floppy disk. I know it is outdated, that is how I lucked up getting it. I am not very computer literate. My questions are: (1) What "format" do I order embroidery patterns in? The options are DST, EXP, HUS, TEF, PCS, PES, SEW, VIP, XXX. (2) Since I assume you dont get patterns on disk these days, does anyone know how I would format (if thats the right word to use) my machine to accept embroidery patterns? Any help is greatly appreciated. I look forward to learning a lot about quilting from all of you. Thanks in advance! Susie

I would imagine the Husqvarna use HUS format. However you can convert any format (PES, DST,SEW, etc to your machines format by downloading from the WILCOM web site. This download is free. I have some designs on disk I can't use because my machine does not use a disk and I don't have a computer with I floppy drive. You are welcome to them.

Thank you for the information. I would love any disk you want to send. I would be glad to pay the postage. Will send you a private message with my personal info. Thanks again!

Hi Susie.

Which machine do you have? I bought a Designer I (floppy) brand new about 8 years ago, but just opened the embroidery box a couple weeks ago...yes seriously.

I am happy to pass on all knowledge that I have picked up regarding uploading, downloading, file conversion, etc. PM if you like.

If your machine is a Designer 1 it will use SHV format. You can get many patterns to download from embroiderydk.com for a very minimal charge. This particular format is very hard to find and even harder to change from other formats. I have a Designer1 and love it but this is a big drawback of this model. I have been considering getting Embird soft ware which is much cheaper than Viking but am waiting for retirement when I have more time.Hope this was helpful. Good luck with your new machine. Happy Sewing.

You could also get an external floppy drive and use your floppies that way. I still do that on my viking!

I also bought a external floppy drive. Not expensive and floppies are pretty cheap.

Look up your local Husqvarna dealer and ask what they have available. Also do a search for free designs online at sites like www.emblibrary.com. They will probably have a list of machines and what formats you can use.

The designer 1 was made just before USB sticks became the rule. You CAN have it updated to USB, but it is pricey.
Get an external floppy drive for your computer and a couple of boxes of disks.
the D 1 uses SHV, HUS, VIP3.
when you buy designs online they ask which one you need. Also, a good dealer will have design collections available that have all the the "languages" on them. Check out all the software options out there, talk with the dealer, and get the one you can and will be able to use.
Check with your nearest Husqvarna dealer for information about embroidery classes.
Good Luck!
