Conbining machine quilting with hand quilting?
Have any of you combined machin quilting with hand quilting? a long time ago I made some bedskirts and one the edge did hand quilting in a fairly large open design. I havent used either of the two that I have left because the seemed to be so bulking. I thought about putting them on my quilting frame and filling in aroung the hand quilting design with stippling.
Would you think that would work out ok? |
I machine quilt and hand-quilt all the time. I love to do the quilting this way. I love to "punctuate" some of the fabric with hand-quilting either before or after I machine quilt. I made several Christmas runners which I stitched-in-the-ditch around the squares and then hand-quilted around the poinsettias, Christmas ornament designs, Stars, and Christmas tress. I actually did the hand-quilting while riding in the car to North Carolina and Kansas this past summer. So everyone got "hand-made" Christmas presents.

Why not? There are no rules; it's your quilt! If a combo sounds like the best solution then go for it!

Yes, I have machine stipple quilted large areas of the quilt and then hand quilted small detailed areas. worked out great.

Thanks, I started. It is looking pretty good.

I hand quilt the areas that will stand out, machine the areas that don't catch the eye. If I didn't do it this way,I'd take a lot longer to complete one,and I'm not getting any younger! BTW. The quilt police don't bother me.

I think you can do anything you want on your quilt... and I think it wlil look just perfect no matter how you mix machine and hand work... its done all the time.

I did a quilt with embroideried squares alternated with solids this way. Stippled the solids and hand quilted the embroideried squares, I didn't like the way machine quilting looked with the embroidery. Turned out ok and gift receipent loved it.
