Is there any way that you can take three off of a cone and put them on a spool? My mom has a self threading machine and there is now way a cone will work with this thing. I have a few cones that she really likes the thread but I have now way of fixing it for her. Thanks to anyone who can help

Gosh, I've never heard of a self threading machine; how does that work?
I use a thread stand when I sew with cone thread, but I'm sure you've thought of that already. Would it be possible to offload some of the thread to a bobbin and then use it as the top thread? I can't visualize the machine, so probably am not helping much. |
http://www.clotilde.com sells the tool to wind spools from big cones.

The thing with winding a spool from a cone is then the thread is going thru the machine from the wrong end. |
A good quality thread has no wrong end. I learned that from a thread seminar.

Her machine is the only one ive seen like this dunster. I attatched a picture so you can see where her thread goes.
Thanks for the clotilde information... i checked it out, just wish they had more pics so that I can see how it works. Nice to know that there is something out there to do this. |
Will the machine use thread off a bobbin? (I often put cone thread on bobbins to carry to a workshop when I don't know which colors I may need. It's lots easier than carrying several cones!)

Wow, that's really different. Thanks for showing it.

Do you have to close that door compartment thing? If you can leave it open, then it could work with a cone.
|
I have never seen a machine like that. What brand is it?
|
It's a brother CS-8150. I think you have to keep the compartment closed or it comes up with an error.

There should be an attachment that goes on top of the spool holder in the machine I can take a picture in the am but it allows bigger spools to be used I have the same machine
|
WOW, I've never seen a machine like this either. Looked it up but couldn't find any information on using a larger cone with it. Do you have a manual to show you how to use the thread cassette and possibly larger cone?
Quiltforme, should be the best person to help you with this as she has the same machine. If all else fails maybe just purchasing the same thread your Mom likes in the correct spool size. |
I have used the EZ Winder spools mentioned by an earlier poster. They wind from the bobbin winder that most machines have on the top of the machine head.
My main use for them was to split up cones for serger sewing as I didn't do enough sewing to warrant four or five cones of each color. |
