Connecting Threads
Any recommendations on their Quilter's Candy Basics? It's on sale for a great price, but the only time I ordered from CT the fabric they sent me was not good quality and I had to return it. I'd like to avoid making the same mistake twice! Thanks. :-)

The same thing happened with my first order. I have since ordered clearance fabrics which were fine. To me, they are still risky on quality.
It's been a couple of years since I ordered any fabric from them. Just spools & spools of their thread - LOVE it! I do like their batiks, but haven't tried the fabric recently. I suppose I should. I thought the earlier fabric was too coarse & I didn't like the printing. It rather sat on top of the fabric instead of penetrating the fibers & becoming one with it! It looks like they have beefed up the thread count to a finer thread with more threads per inch. I'll be anxious to see others opinions of the fabric now.
I know I wasn't all that impressed when I first ordered, the fabric was dull and muddy. The last fabric collections I have ordered have been just fine.
I have bought lots of fabric from Connecting Threads recently and have been very pleased with the quality. I just bought 2 kits from there and the fabric is gorgeous! And you sure can't beat the price! For those of us in Canada the shipping is very reasonable - only $7.99, which is so much less than most places. It is my favorite place to order online.

I have never had a problem with CT fabrics everything I have ordered
has always felt so good to touch that I got to where I wouldn't cut, instead I would just run my hand over it because is was so soft and felt luxurious to me. |
I love their fabrics, thread, batting.....just about anything they have! Their prices are great and customer service is above and beyond the norm. I do love the new collections, great colors.
I bought some Candy basics back in the summer and am very pleased with it. It has a nice feel and very bright colors. I am using it to make a cupcake quilt for my youngest DD.
The fabric I've ordered looks even better in person that it did online. I've been pleased with everything I've ordered from them.
Their fabric fades fast, doesn't feel nearly as nice as LQS brand names and the thread is LINTY , bumpy and nubby. Not my favorite at all. You get what you pay for, IMO.
I've never had a problem with their fabric. Just got another order. Bought white, cornflower, and a red. Also get my batting from them. I like the 80/20 hobbs. Am pleased with their thread also. So far have not had any problems.
Just bought some flannel for backing for my dds quilt. It washed nicely. I paid $7.99 a yard. The color is beautiful. However it is not as nice as the flannel in Paradise or the Quilted Moose in Sault Ste. Marie (Upper Peninsula, MI) but a whole lot cheaper.
I buy from them all the time...I might be their favorite customer! The Mirage fabrics are really nice, at least the ones I've purchased. I'm awaiting an order right now.
Some of it is nice and some is not so great...hard to tell from the web....but the stuff you don't really care for can be used for charity quilts...it's still ok...

I have all brands of thread, even one small spool that cost $28 (I won it), hand dyed in England. That thread is awful so I don't believe you get what you pay for is always true.

I have ALWAYS been THRILLED with whatever I have bought from Connecting Threads...their kits have always been fantastically priced (especially when they go on sale), I have always had generous and straight cuts of fabric to the point that I usually can get 2 different quilts from each kit. In fact I just cut out a "brick" quilt from fabric left over from their "every which way" baby quilt kit made from wonderful flannels in blue, red, gray and teal. I got 150 2" X 3 1/2" rectangles cut with my AccuQuilt. With the navy flannel fabric that is left I will have be able to put strips in between a row of the rectangles and make another baby quilt.

The last two orders have been great.
I use their fabrics all the time, especially the Mirage for backing and what's called solid pieces. I love it.

I ordered from them about a month ago a navy blue fabric and a cranberry red and I was not happy with the way they washed the navy blue had a white faded line on the fold I blamed it on me because t I didn't open the width when I put it in the washer but I did open the cranberry red and layered it in the washer when I took it out of the dryer it was worse then the navy blue white lines going through the whole 2 yrds of fabric no way I could anything with it except fmq practice and I also ordered 2 large spools of 50wt white thread 1 cone was good the other cone was lousy thread kept coming off the spool about every 3 feet I can't wind a full bobbin with it now I use that for hand needle work.but then again I did some nice fabric about a year ago

Connecting Threads has great customer service. You can call them if you get fabric and threads that are duds. They really take care of you. I have ordered fabric and thread from them and have been very happy.
Count me as a happy content customer! Everything I've made from their fabrics has washed wonderfully and fading has not happened. On my latest quilt, their representative found the perfect color thread for me - she was a real person that cared about a customer.
I am always careful with any saturated color for a project, from any manufacturer. I do not wash fabric before using it - I wash a sample to make sure it does what I want. I prefer the dimention of stitches! |
I have never had trouble with the quality of their fabric. I have bought a lot and it has always been of good quality.
I saw that they had a few Mirage fabrics. I have ordered Mirage and the quality was good. Understand that's all I ordered so all I can comment on

I am sure if you called them and complained they would make it right. I bought a kit and pannel was missing which was needed to make quilt and they gave me $30 plus dollars credit and I got to keep yards of fabric, in large peices and that is only time I have had a problem with them. Anything else I got from them has been great, including charm packs. Let them know about your red and blue material, it should not have done that. I too pre wash and have to 50 years, better than find out materal runs, shrinks etc and you can get bad material anywhere even if you pay a lot for it. Way back, sewing clothes you wanted to make sure material didn't shrink and colors run and it was standard to prewash. |
I have never had a problem with their fabric and have ordered from them many times.
Someone told me a while back that CT had changed manufacturers because of so many complaints with their original fabrics. They were odd off colors, coarse and not very appealing to me. The pieces I have ordered more recently have been much better quality. I have had problems with their threads. For some reason my Janomes do not like it.
I have had good luck with Connecting Threads and I'm thinking about taking advantage of their current sale.
I've said it before and I'll probably say it again in the next thread that I've been ordering from C.T. for years and have been more than satisfied with every fabric. I prewash and have never had a problem with fabric fading or any other problem. It's all been gorgeous stuff. My latest order arrived just a few weeks ago and is lovely bright colours.
As for their threads being linty, I clean the bobbin area every time I refill the bobbin. It might be slightly more linty but I can't tell. Their service is great and postage to Hawai`i is $7.50 or so which is more than reasonable. There are sites where I got to the checkout and would have been charged as much as $85 for fabric that would have fit in a large priority mail box. I don't think so dudes! :) |
Bought a lot from them. Years ago I bought some red mirage that rubbed off on things. But since then have not had any problems with fabric - not always the designs I want, but I've been happy with the quality. Recently ordered solids - about 20 colors - and I am happy with them. I have lots of their thread, it sews well and is inexpensive enough that I am not nervous using it for "practice" or just playing around. Some say it is linty. I don't know if it is anymore than other cotton thread. Like some have said, I brush out my machine with some frequency - bobbin area every bobbin or two and a more extensive cleaning after every project. So I can't really address whether it is lintier or if it is a problem. Customer service is good. Once I was sent a piece of the wrong fabric - and the right one was out to me immediately. (No returns necessary). That was the only "issue" I ever had. Overall, a very happy customer.

I put in a big thread order at CT without first trying it, based on the good recommendations I've heard on this site and elsewhere. I hope it's good thread! I'll try it soon. Now I'm a bit concerned after what quilters have said on these posts.
I love their thread, do a lot of free motion quilting & haven't had any problems, no nubs & no more linty than other cotton thread.
I've seen those posts too. I use CT thread and it is a little linty but since I clean my machine regularly that's no problem. I love the variety of colors and the price. I've used it for piecing and quilting and I've been happy with it.
