Convert yardage to fat quarters
 

Hi everyone. I have a pattern that called for 60 fat quarters but I bought the equivalent in yards. Is there any advantage to cutting it all up into fat quarters before cutting strips? Wouldn't that be just making more work for myself?

Hi Joann, I'm with you. Sounds like more work for no good reason!

I think it would depend on the pattern. If it is a case of the pattern telling you to cut x amount of this or that sized square, I would not cut the yardage into fat quarters first. If it is a case of the pattern needing x amount of strips that will be mixed up, well, six of one, half a dozen of the other. So my answer is 'maybe'. :Dn Lotta help huh!

I would just go ahead & cut it out of your yardage & skip the fat quarters since you have enough fabric to make the quilt in yardage.

The reason for giving the number of FQs may be to give you a greater variety of colors or prints.

As long as you the yardage I think it would be just as easy to cut from your yardage vs. cutting into fat quarters and then strips.

No, because you will probably end up with lots of tiny bits that can not be used for anything. If you keep it whole, chances are your left overs will be of usable sizes.
