I am a semi-new quilter having only completed 4 so far. I really want to make a Card Trick quilt but the only pattern I have found is for a 9" finished block. I would really like to make a 12" block as I am doing a queen size. The cuts for the square for the 9" pattern are as follows:

3 7/8 x 3 7/8" squares
4 1/4 x 4 1/4" squares cut in have twice diagonally

Does anyone either have a pattern for a larger square or know how to convert this to do so? I don't trust myself to try the conversion. Thanks in advance for any help

do you have a printer that can enlarge? do a search on here for conversion chart, it shows you how much to enlarge to get the next size

I find it best to redraw the pattern in the size you want. Sometimes enlarging on copier does not do it accurately especially if triangles are in the design.
That one should be easy with graft paper.

If you go to the BOM section here, and click on the BOMs for prior years. There is a card trick block there that is 12" :D:D:D

I used EQ7 and it said this -

for HST's, use 4 7/8" squares
for QST's, use 5 3/16" squares

I would round up to 5" and 5 1/4" (maybe even 5 3/8") and then cut down if necessary after sewing.

That's too funny. I wanted to do a 9" card trick and could only find a 12" pattern. Finally found one and love the way it turned out. I decided to try different quilt blocks just to see if I could do them, and I think my project just might turn into a sampler quilt. I really do wish I had chosen to make 12 inch blocks. There are a lot more patterns for those than the nine. I'm fairly new to quilting also and not good at converting patterns.

There is definitely a lot to learn with this craft but I am absolutely completely in love with it and like others on this site I am trying to find a way to have more time to do it. It is those pesky tasks such as working, cleaning and cooking meals that are getting in my way :lol:
