WOW!! That was incredibly fast!! Tabberone you ROCK!! Thank you so much for your response.

OK, Ladies, as far as I am concerned, we have a definitive answer from an attorney who is an expert in copyright law and protection. Go ahead and make your quilts and sell them if you so desire.

Whoa. I hope you are not calling me an attorney? I am not.

Most sincere, groveling apoligies! LOL, I wouldn't insult you so for the world. I guess I made that ass thing. You know, assumed you were. Mea Culpae, Mea Culpae, Mea Maxima Culpae.  For my penance, I guess I'll go walk the mutt. In this humidity that will be real punishment!!

Forgiven. However I have seen every episode of Boston Legal.

DRG has been on my web site since May 15, 2007 under the name ePatterns.

Well, I am glad she came here! And I do think its important to add that while she is not a lawyer, she HAS represented herself in court in several successful lawsuits against these big billion dollar companies.

I think we should direct everone to that link.

tabberone 09-01-2010 06:00 AM

He? Another insult?

stefanib123 09-01-2010 06:07 AM

Fixed it, LOL! Not an insult, just confused, LOL!

Thanks for the info tabberone. Quite frankly, I would think the companies would WELCOME us making a # of quilts to sell... By putting out pics of our quilts on this forum or on Ebay or Etsy....we give inspiration to OTHER quilters. Thus, other quilters go out and purchase fabric and patterns and tools. If they tried to squelch or instinct (and maybe our need these days) to sell, then they're shooting themselves in the foot!

Just a sidenote: I found a pattern I like in Quilter's World...but due to their letter, I set it aside thinking that I didn't want to bother with their rules. Just went into Hancocks of Paducah and found the SAME pattern....FREE!!! Yeah, I'd toss any of these lawsuits out of the courtroom if I were a judge.

The very last thing I want to do is rekindle the copyright debate, however, I just received an email from Kimberly Skelton, the Customer Relations Manager at DRG, the publishers of Quilter's World. It seems that the email Dee received was incorrect and out dated. Kim's message reads as follows:

Dear *****,

I was forwarded your inquiry regarding the copyrights issue of making products from our patterns. I apologize that one of the customer service representatives used a very old script in replying to your inquiry.

We do not require that you obtain our permission for productions of projects made from our patterns, nor do we require that you indicate the copyrighted source of the pattern or idea. However, many people are interested in knowing the source of hand-crafted items, so it's a good feature to include when selling the project.

You can review our copyright bulletin if you have questions about our general copyright information. You can find the bulletin at http://www.drgnetwork.com/pages/copyrights/, or you can request a printed copy by sending a written request to:

Quilter’s World
Attn: Copyright information
306 East Parr Rd.
Berne, IN 46711-2159

I apologize for the inconvenience to you, and we wish you the best in all of your quilting! You may use this e-mail as verification that you can sell the products made from our patterns.

Warm regards,

Kim Skelton

I just want to set the record straight as far as what their policy is. Thought you should know. :)
