cork fabric

Hi,
I'm just curious if anyone has used that cork fabric? I saw some in a shop and it was very pretty. I think I might like to make a wallet out of it. The Sales ladies at the shop said it was very easy to sew through and required no special treatment other than being careful with the iron. It is quite expensive so I don't want to invest until I've gotten more information.

Thanks!
Michelle

I got some a few months ago made my husband a neck tie, and two friends bow ties. I made them "cheater" style since I was worried the constant tugging or pulling of tying the ties would damage the cork. They all love their ties and get all kind of compliments when they wear them. I only did hand sewing on them it was very easy. (oh I forgot I did machine sew on the fastener (velcro) to the neck pieces it sewed very easily just like fabric) I left raw edges which I passed a lighter over so the thread backing wouldn't fray.

I made a composition cover for granddaughter, and embroidered a giraffe (she loves all things giraffe) on the front. It was easy to stitch, and looked great! I found trimming with a rotary cutter was easier and neater than scissors.

Made a wallet using cork fabric, it is expensive so you do have to be careful. Sara Lawson shows you how to use it on her YouTube channel. Good luck with the cork it's so fun and now there are more patterns and colors available, Sara sells it too.

Sandygirl, cool I don't carry a purse only a wallet so would have never occurred to me to make it into a purse.

Here are pics of my ties.

Thanks everyone for the comments, information and pictures! I ordered a smaller piece and am going to try a wallet first.

It sews just like fabric, however, I would not press it with an iron. I have a piece and plan to make a purse.
