Border Idea

that looks great but is also facing outwards. I am looking for a cornerblock where the points of the pyramidborder face inwards

I like your rendition of the corner, but I would turn it so the big yellow triangle is facing outward. You are the quilter, and what you like is what you should do. I would have to see it done to know what I like or don't like. My imagination is not as good as the real thing.

Could you post a drawing of what you mean? sorry can't understand what you mean

this is what I mean by looking inwards. Btw: you are looking at paper. I made this with papercopies of my fabric as I have to see what I want to make, but I cant come up with a fitting cornerblock.........

Can't post a picture of my drawing but if you look at your first posting and changed the blue sky fabrics to darks/mediums and the HST square to both triangles being the sky fabric would that work for you?

cool, are you still playing with your hubbys copy machine???

sorry I had to drop out yesterday but is was getting 3 a.m. over here...............

Is this what you mean? looks a bit naked, doesnt it?
And yep, still playing. Without the help of the paper I would never be able to get the pattern straight with the fabric.

I'll see if I can get your original picture corner block turned in with dark corners here.
I'm trying to use EQ5 and the cute PDF writer to get the block on here, looks like you can see it in my EQ if you click on download.

I'm almost thinking you might need to modify the two blocks next to your corner as well. Going to go play with possibilities!

granny_59 06-26-2010 06:47 AM

Sorry thimblebug - I dont get a picture. No idea what I do wrong...

mom-6 06-26-2010 07:17 AM

OK, one solution I came up with:

block next to corner (vertical side) - big hst of sky, big hst of next long side of pyramid
actual corner block.- big hst of sky and small hst of each pyramid fabic across corner
block next to corner (top, horizontal side) - big hst of sky, small hst of each pyramid fabric, continuing pattern, but not completing next big side of pyramid

So you end up with sky as the three large hst facing the inside of the corner and partial pyramids continuing around.

Clear as mud???

Can you give us some idea of the rest of the pattern? What will the points be aiming at and what away from. That would certainly make a difference in the design of the border as far as balance and scale are concerned. You need visual weight on the side opposite the sky fabric to anchor the triangles, imho.

thanks so much mom-6 and I dont quite get it..... thats why I am playing around with paper. My brain doesnt see without the help of my eyes

appreciate your help very much

the two pyramidborders are on both sides of the 3D pinwheels

how about making the corner like this

Haven't mastered posting other than words yet.

Like that solution better than the one I came up with...more balanced color-wise. Mine would have had too much sky there at the corner. This will look much more 'finished'.

Is this the final border, at least of this section?

I think I'd like to see a repeat of the solid yellow and the green print (in that order) as your next step.

Really like what I see here!

How about something like this? Top is inside, bottom is outside.
(please forgive the rough sketch)

Ooo I like that last one ghostrider :D:D:D

granny_59 06-26-2010 11:31 AM

thank you so much ghostrider that looks great. As I already did the outwards corner I think I will go with the full HST version this time but sure will keep your solution in mind.

And for the yellow/green border. I was planning on a final border in a solid color and the binding with a print. I have to go step by step
